Located near one of the ancient city’s ancient gateways, Porta Pia, on the north side of the historical centre of Rome, the Cesar B&B is one of the few accommodations in Rome specifically geared to offer kosher food and services. The spacious suites all have private en suite bathrooms and air conditioning and reception is attended 24 hours a day. Breakfast is also included in the room rate. The history of the ancient Romans and the Jews is forever entangled and a few kilometres south, in the very heart of the old city, is the area known since ancient times as the Jewish Ghetto. At the southern entrance to the Imperial Roman Forum stands the triumphal arch of Titus, one of only five left in the world and built to celebrate the Roman conquest over the Jewish people. Engravings on the arch depict the story of the victory but interestingly, there is now a chain to discourage visitors from walking under it - this was placed here in the last century following the holocaust, as to walk under the arch is symbolic of subjugation of the Jews.
The Cesar B&B is close to the main synagogue, Ashkenazi Chabad and also to the Sephardic, while other Rome attractions nearby include the Baths of Diocletian, the Trevi Fountain and Piazza della Repubblica. |
